Gomer's Seasoning was created by Mike and Peggy Ferrell of Santa Maria, CA . Growing up and living in Santa Maria, almost every get together or birthday involves a barbeque. We always had a special blended seasoning for the food we were serving. On one occasion when we were visiting relatives out of town, we were asked to make sure we brought some of our "special" seasoning, so we printed and attached a silly label as a joke.
Soon we began making jars and gave them as gifts to friends and family with the label Gomer's "Gooder'n Shit" Bar-Bur-Q Seasoning . They were such a big hit, we decided to start selling them.
Realizing the humorous label may not appeal to everyone, we started selling the same seasoning as Gomer's Santa Maria Style BBQ Seasoning. However......... for those of you who enjoy a good laugh and great taste we also sell the original label jars.
Santa Maria–style barbecue originated in the mid-19th century when local ranchers hosted Spanish-style feasts. They barbecued meat over earthen pits filled with hot coals of local oak wood. The meal was served with pinquitos, small pink beans that are considered indigenous to the Santa Maria Valley.
The Santa Maria Barbecue grew out of this tradition and achieved its 'style' when local residents began to string cuts of beef on skewers or rods and cook the meat over the hot coals of a red oak fire. The original cut was top sirloin. The meat was rolled in a mixture of salt, pepper, and garlic salt before being barbecued over the red oak coals, which contribute a smoky, hearty flavor
In the 1950s, a local butcher perfected the tri-tip, a triangular cut that quickly joined top sirloin as a staple of Santa Maria–style barbecue.
Gomer's BBQ Seasoning works well on many things. Beef, Chicken, Pork & Fish. Also Salads Soups, Vegetables, Eggs and much more. Our customers report many uses including popcorn, Bloody Mary's and tofu. Either on the bbq grill or the stove, it has many uses.
